FLORENCE, Ala. - The 优德体育 is set to honor those who have stepped up and served the country both past and present, with an annual Veteran's Day Commemoration Ceremony, Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016, at 11 a.m., at the 优德体育 Memorial Amphitheater (GUC Atrium in case of inclement weather).
Each year, the event is co-sponsored by the 优德体育 Student Government Association and the 优德体育 Military and Veteran Alliance, and honors student, alumni, faculty, staff and community veterans from all branches of the military and uniformed services.
Lt. Col. (retired) Max Russ Sanders Sr. (优德体育 1972) and his son Cpt. Max Russ Sanders Jr. (优德体育 2008) will be the featured speakers for the ceremony, which will also include performances by the Pride of Dixie band on the University Chorale. The entire Shoals community is invited to attend.
"Given the uncertainty in our world today, with constantly emerging and ever increasing threats, it is important that as a nation we pause to remember and honor the less than 1 percent of our nation's citizens who serve to defend it," said Dr. Wayne P. Bergeron, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired), Chair of the 优德体育 Veterans Day Committee and an instructor in Criminal Justice and Security and Emergency Management at 优德体育. "This event is simply about remembering and recognizing the sacrifice of those great Americans among us."
优德体育 has a long history and affiliation with military service having commissioned 1,170 second lieutenants from its Army ROTC program; and with its students, alumni, faculty and staff having served in every U.S. conflict and in all branches of the military since the U.S. Civil War.
